SMS developed a simulation model of a complex raw coal transportation system to address bottlenecks and inadequate storage. Relatively minor infrastructure upgrades were recommended, avoiding anticipated new stockpiles or other major investment. The model was then available for ongoing use, to support decision making for other proposed projects and upgrades.
Modelling and simulation experience across transport sectors
We have modelled Newcastle Harbour port operations, several coal loaders and numerous materials handling projects (including coal, bauxite and grain). Our ‘pit-to-port’ projects have included rail network modelling and scheduling and we have supported airports with terminal operations and bagging handling.
