Senior Environmental Planner

The role is a senior position within Advitech’s Environment team and provides the successful candidate opportunity to demonstrate and develop not only technical competency, but leadership qualities required to address the needs of our growing team.

Responsibilities

  • Providing environmental planning and management advice and support to clients across multiple sectors
  • Leading the development of REFs or DAs involving EISs, SOEEs or EAs
  • Undertaking field investigations and managing consultants on large scale energy infrastructure projects during construction, ensuring compliance with management plans
  • Supporting the review and sign-off on contractors’ works, including review of Method Statements and Risk Assessments, and attending work progress meetings
  • Reviewing work from external consultants, to assess compliance with client’s internal processes and procedures, professional standards, and quality and OH&S standards
  • Supporting the identification of environmental constraints and assisting with developing solutions to management for decision making
  • Supporting the preparation of environmental referrals, environmental management plans, planning applications, technical memoranda, letters and reports to a high standard
  • Supporting integrated approvals processes (federal, state and local) for renewable energy infrastructure developments

About You

To be successful in this role, you will meet the following essential criteria:

  • Degree qualification in environmental science, planning or related discipline
  • Minimum of five years’ experience within environmental and planning sector
  • Extensive knowledge of NSW planning and environmental legislation, particularly the EP&A Act and Regulations
  • Proven project management skills
  • Demonstrated experience in the efficient preparation, submission and management of DAs including liaison with consent authorities and effective resolution skills
  • Experience in statutory planning or amendments to LEPs and DCPs such as Planning Proposals for rezoning applications, and knowledge in the preparation of Masterplans
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to undertake field work as required
  • Desire for continued professional and career development
  • Current drivers licence

Desirable the following additional skills would be advantageous:

  • Accreditation as Certified Practising Planner and or eligibility for membership to the Planning Institute of Australia
  • Experience in or knowledge of State and Local Government practices relating to development assessment
  • Certification as a Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP)
  • Certification as CEnvP-IA (Impact Assessment) and NSW REAP (Registered Environmental Assessment Practitioner)
  • General knowledge of the Building Code of Australia
  • Diverse knowledge of a range of environmental disciplines, such as: noise assessment, air quality and odour assessment, surface water and groundwater, soils and contaminated site management, greenhouse gas assessment, ecological assessments, and archaeological and heritage assessments
  • Experience in the preparation or assessment of Development Applications in relation to the industrial or mining sectors, including potentially hazardous development
  • Current drivers licence

Location: Emergent Group Headquarters Newcastle is preferred, but we remain open to other options. Flexible work practices apply for this role.
Salary: Will be negotiated depending on your experience
